The built-in speakers of most TVs are usually sufficient for ordinary viewing but if you want high quality sound, especially when watching movies, you will need to install additional speakers. And if you are fussy about wires crawling their way from the TV to these sound enhancers, you can always opt for wireless TV speakers.

You do not, however, simply log on to your favorite online store, or walk into the nearest brick and mortar store, and walk home with a set of speakers for your TV. The amplifier of your TV does not have enough power to drive additional speakers. You will need either a home theater receiver or a wireless system. Although some experts claim that a home theater receiver gives the most accurate sound, from gunshots to whispers, others disagree.

Everybody agrees, however, that a wireless system is less expensive than a home theater receiver. It is also easier to set up. The manual that normally comes with your purchase can guide you step-by-step through the installation process. Also, with no wires to connect the TV with the speakers, there is less clutter around your system. This also means that there is no need to hire a professional to drill through your ceiling or floors to hide wires going to the rear speakers.

You have to decide which type of setup you wish to have. You can go for a 5.1, 6.1, or a 7.1 setup. The 5.1 has four main speakers, a subwoofer, and a center speaker; the 6.1 has six mains, and a subwoofer; while the 7.1 has six mains, a subwoofer, and a center speaker. Of course, the more speakers there are, the higher the sound quality. And so is the price.

There are recommended positions of the various wireless TV speakers including their proper angles and heights. Notwithstanding this, the ultimate test should be your ears.
